If you like Barn dancing, then you will love Square Dancing too.
Square Dancing is fun and the club is very friendly and welcoming. We like to dance well, but don’t take it too seriously and aim to enjoy our dancing. Everyone is welcome to come along and join in. The evening is divided into a number of tips. The first thing you hear is an invitation to “square up”. Dancers gather in groups of eight, four couples facing each other round an imaginary square. If you don’t have a partner that’s not a problem as there are expert dancers happy to dance with beginners. The dance moves are all directed by the caller. So you don’t need to remember a long sequence of steps as in other dance styles. These moves are taught in beginners classes and at first you will be taught the basic moves. If all the moves in a tip are restricted to Basic, then the caller will announce it as a "Basic Tip". Once you have learned these, you progress to other moves in the Mainstream level. After that, you will graduate and start attending dances. Of course it doesn't have to end there, if you wish to carry on learning there are more advanced levels to really test you when you are ready.
